Classification Of Headphones

1. According to the working principle

There are mainly two categories of dynamic and electrostatic earphones. Although there are several kinds of isomagnetic earphones in addition to these two categories, they have been eliminated or have been used for professional purposes. The market share is very small, so we will not discuss them here.

Dynamic earphones: at present, the vast majority (about 99%) of earphone earphones belong to this category. The principle is similar to that of ordinary speakers. The coil in the permanent magnetic field is connected to the diaphragm, and the coil drives the diaphragm to make sound under the driving of signal current.

Electrostatic earphones: the diaphragm is in a changing electric field. The diaphragm is extremely thin and accurate to a few microns (currently, the diaphragm of the new generation of static earphones of Stax has been accurate to 1.35 microns). The coil drives the diaphragm to sound under the driving force of the electric field.

2. According to the degree of openness

Mainly open, semi open and closed (closed).

Open earphones are generally natural to listen to and comfortable to wear. They are commonly used in hifi earphones for home appreciation. The sound can be leaked. Conversely, the external sound can also be heard. The earphones have less pressure on the ears.

Semi open type: There are no strict regulations, and the sound can only enter or exit, and the corresponding adjustment can be made according to the needs.

Closed type: The ear muff exerts great pressure on the ear to prevent sound from entering and leaving, and the sound is well positioned. This kind of earphone is often seen in the professional monitoring field. However, this kind of earphone has a disadvantage that the bass sound is seriously polluted, and W100 is an obvious example.

3: By purpose

It mainly uses home, portable, monitor, mix and binaural recording.
