Common Types Of Earmuffs

1. Soft plastic sleeve

(it can also be called "hat type" and "cover type", often made of silicone and PVC)

1) General purpose earmuffs, such as the three segment earmuffs and some two segment earmuffs, can allow the user to choose the depth of insertion into the ear canal, usually deeper to enhance the sound insulation effect (this method is also considered as a wearing method with strong "foreign body characteristics").

2) Different sizes of earmuffs, such as Shure soft foam earmuffs, are available in three sizes: small, medium and large. The user selects these ear muffs according to the comfort degree of his preference after wearing them well.

2. Sponge cover

1) Universal (e.g. Shure yellow sponge).

2) Different sizes (Shure black sponge). Most sponge covers are not washable and require replacement every few weeks).

In addition to custom eardrums, sponge covers are generally considered to be the most comfortable and sound insulation earmuffs. Compared with the soft plastic cover, the sealed environment formed by the sponge cover close to the ear canal will bring a warmer, fuller and sometimes even more pleasant listening feeling to the user.

3. Hard acrylic used for customized eardrum

(custom eardrums also have soft plastic and hard / soft membranes, but are not very common)

We should note that it is very uncomfortable to insert a foreign body into the ear canal at the initial stage of use, even if it is perfectly worn. To overcome this problem, it is often necessary to patiently choose the appropriate type and size of ear muffs.
