The Flash Ready For Screen
Feb 13, 2023
The Flash has not had the smoothest of rides toward cinemas, to say the least. First there were pandemic-related delays, and then the ongoing allegations against its star, Ezra Miller – which have yet to be resolved – broke, followed by confusion over what universe exactly it’s taking place in as we head towards James Gunn’s DC Universe reset. But, as his announcement made clear, The Flash is going to be pivotal to launching the new era of DC, and now fans who’ve been hanging on for something – anything – to get hyped about have finally got what they wanted.
A new teaser poster has given us sight of the Batman logo for the first time ahead of a big trailer drop during the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Now, not to go a little Robert Pattinson Batman and get our sleuth on for a second here, but this logo hanging from the Batcave looks a lot like the sharp-winged logo which Michael Keaton’s Batman used while he was playing the Caped Crusader. Rumours had abounded that Keaton’s role was being cut – or, at least, that his Bat-wings were being clipped and his role shrunk – but such a prominent clue would suggest that whatever has happened, he’ll still be prominent. (And – let us engage our Christian Bale Batman X-ray specs a second, hang on – that Batcave looks very, very reminiscent of Christopher Nolan’s Bat-era. Could there be yet another era of Batman lurking in the shadows providing the cameo that Gotham deserves, and also the one it needs right now?)
Perhaps pause before you get your spelunking gear out. There are a lot of Batpeople about at the minute. You’ve got R-Batz, for one. Keaton’s Batman was slated to appear in the suddenly-canned Batgirl, and only a couple of weeks ago, Gunn announced that a fresh Bat is coming in Batman: The Brave And The Bold, working from Grant Morrison’s comics. That’s all down the line for now – but you can be sure it’ll be here in a flash.
The Flash Trailer Features Multiple Barrys – And Michael Keaton’s Batman Back In Action

Though its future once seemed to be in the balance, given the revolving door of filmmakers involved, the new brooms coming to DC's movie and TV universe and the many issues caused by the offscreen behaviour of star Ezra Miller, The Flash is still speeding towards our cinemas this year. The first full trailer also puts a future in doubt, though this time it's part of the plot. Check it out…
Released with all the hoopla you'd expect from a trailer during the Super Bowl, the new look at the movie sketches more of the story. Still haunted by the murder of his mother, Barry Allen (Miller) uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod (Michael Shannon) has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.
That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
The "Batman", of course, is Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne (we can also expect to see Ben Affleck's Wayne as well, albeit probably less in Bat-mode). And that Kryptonian? That would be Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El, AKA Supergirl.
With Ron Livingston inheriting the role of Barry's Dad, Henry, Kiersey Clemons back as Iris West and Andy Muschietti directing, The Flash will be in cinemas on 16 June.
As a aside, "The Gorsun's headphones should also be allowed to leave the country"
